Beatrice Mbali, Brenda Grassel, Karen Skoog, and Jackline Musyoka (from left to right) smile in the school yard at Beyond the Vision Community School. Brenda and Karen traveled to Kenya in June of 2024 to visit the school and connect with Beyond the Vision Initiative staff and Beyond the Vision Community School students.
Brenda and Karen were honored with a celebratory welcome.
Brenda and Karen selected Romans 12:12 in reflection to frame their experiences during their mission trip. The main word that they use to describe their experience is "Hope."
Brittany is a 15 year-old scholarship beneficiary. Karen and Brenda were delighted to meet her and moved by her bright and joyful personality.
Brittany attends a remote boarding school.
Brittany opens up about her experiences at boarding school.
Brittany rejoices in the hope provided by her scholarship.
Bernard is a 10 year old Beyond the Vision Community School Student. Karen and Brenda joined Beyond the Vision Initiative social worker, Miriam, as she explained the intake process that qualified Bernard to attend the school. The intake process includes a home visit.
The Community School is in the Embakasi neighborhood of the Tassia informal settlement outside of Nairobi, Kenya. These photos show the environment that Bernard and other BVCS students travel through to attend school every day. The photo of the candle is of the wall in Bernard's home, which his mother, Jennifer, beautified with lace.
The above photo shows the packed schoolyard at Beyond the Vision Community School. Beyond Vision Foundation donors provide funding for the school.
Bernard and his mother, Jennifer, smile and embrace in front of a full table of food provided by Beyond the Vision Initiative.
Jackline Musyoka is the Executive Director of Beyond the Vision Initiative. Jackline's work in community development in Tassia spans more than a decade. She has touched the lives of thousands of people and had made a meaningful impact through her selfless and constant devotion to the lives of people in Tassia.
Jackline shared a couple of the most fervent prayers from her heart through a pre-recorded video. Jackie is truly a dedicated servant of God.
Brenda, Jackie, and Karen all stand on the ten-acre parcel where "The Happy Place" boarding school will be built to ensure that all Community School graduates can attend secondary school. Brenda, Jackie, and Karen remain constant in prayer that the school will come to fruition and support for the development and construction of it will be provided.
Karen and Brenda are grateful for the hospitality and love that they experienced during their visit. They prayed over the Community School gates for continued blessings before leaving.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT!
